EV Fire Safety

Electric vehicle fires burn differently and are hard to put out with normal equipment. This is what works.

Why it matters

Normal extinguishers do not stop a battery fire

A lithium battery in thermal runaway keeps reigniting. Water and powder cool the surface but the cells keep burning.

A fire blanket smothers the vehicle, contains the smoke and buys time for Bomba to arrive. More car parks, workshops and showrooms in Malaysia now require one on site.

Car parks and basements

Contains the fire in a confined space where sprinklers alone are not enough.

Workshops and showrooms

For premises handling EV service, repair or battery storage.

EV charging bays

Increasingly expected wherever chargers are installed.

EV fire safety questions

Can an ordinary fire extinguisher put out an electric vehicle fire?

Not reliably. A lithium battery in thermal runaway keeps producing its own heat and reignites after the surface has been cooled.

Ordinary media can knock down flames on surrounding material, but it does not stop the cells burning. Equipment rated for the job, or a fire blanket, is what contains the incident.

What does an EV fire blanket actually do?

It is placed over the burning vehicle to smother the fire and contain the smoke. It does not extinguish the battery. What it does is hold the incident in place and limit spread to nearby vehicles and structure until the fire brigade arrives.

That matters most in a basement or a multi storey car park, where a single vehicle fire can spread quickly.

Is the EV fire blanket SIRIM approved?

Yes. The EV fire blanket we supply is SIRIM approved, and we deliver across Johor and Malaysia.

What do I need for a car park with EV chargers?

It depends on the number of bays, whether the car park is enclosed or open, and what is already installed. Tell us the bay count and the layout and we will advise what is appropriate rather than selling you more than the site needs.

Who needs this equipment?

Car parks and basements, EV workshops and showrooms, logistics and fleet yards, and any premises with charging bays installed. It is increasingly expected wherever chargers are put in.
