A fire protection system is the building wide provision: the alarm panel, detectors, sprinklers, hydrants and hose reels that detect a fire and get water to it.
A fire suppression system protects a specific area where water would cause damage, such as a server room, a commercial kitchen or a switch room. It uses CO2, a clean agent or wet chemical instead of water. Most buildings need the first. Some need both.

Yes. We take over maintenance of existing systems regularly, including ones that have not been serviced for some time. The first step is a site survey to record what is installed and what condition it is in.
